The vulnerability to trawling on a species level is determined by species' individual combination of biological traits that related the ecosystem functions. Trait-based indices physical resistance RI and reproductive potential RPI were developed combined into an overall index level, RRI or Resistance Reproductive Potential Index. are used explore how potentia change over gradient. allows for dividing benthic community groups expressing different levels can be linked opens up possibility scenario modelling simulating extinction loss vulnerable its effects validity trait-based was explored comparing scores empirically observed responses gradient based previously published data. score (regression slopes) significantly correlated providing support rationality approach taken. Data analyses evidenced increases resilience gradient, demonstrating communities lost with increasing trawling. When exploring bioturbation, we found it disproportionately affected though species. proposed provide new insights link function.
